Reports of 1st May 2007- Tehran
Workers
managed to intervene in the ‘official’ demonstration and gatherings of
May 1st
in Tehran .
The workers
booed the ‘pro reformist’ of government
workers organisations and
responded by organising their independent demonstrations
after the official gatherings with slogans such
as
: ‘incompetent minister ,
Resign! Resign!’
‘government
, parliament stop your slogans, act’,
‘End
contract work’, ‘decent wage’ …
Many
teachers and student activists joined the protests. Security forces
tried to
stop the protests by they were
faced with louder and more radical slogans by
workers who shouted : ” death to the supporters of capitalists’.
The ensuing
street battles stopped traffic in one of the main streets in central
Tehran (Taleghani Ave)
As the
protests moved to adjacent streets at around 11 am Tehran time,
civilian and
Military
security forces intervened to arrest known labour activists. Mansour
Ossanlou
(present of Tehran Vahed Bus
workers) was briefly arrested and was only
released after protests and
interventions by demonstrators and
passers by.
Yagoub Salimi of the Vahed Bus company was also arrested and
is currently in custody. Subsequently thirty workers
from Vahed Bus company
staged a sit in outside Tehran
prosecutor’s office demanding the release of
fellow worker.
