Leading labour activist
arrested
Behzad Sohrabi, a leading Labour activist and member of the
'coordinating committee' that is working towards the setting up
independent workers organisations in Iran was arrested on January 31
2009.
At 9.30 am, five
agents of the security forces arrested Behzad in his house in Tehran,
confiscating his computer and a number of documents in his house. In
the last few months, Behzad Sohrabi has played an active role in
exposing various so-called “labour organisations” in Iran who have been
associated with the CIA solidarity centre and other organisations who
we know are working towards a ‘regime change’ that would suit US
imperialism. They conduct a form of soft war, in other words.
Behzad is an
anti-imperialist and anti-war labour activist and HOPI will do all it
can to defend him and fight for his release. We call on all HOPI
supporters and organisations and trade unions affiliated to HOPI to
campaign for the immediate and unconditional release of Behzad Sohrabi.
Please send messages of support to office@hopoi. info and try to pass emergency resolutions in your union/organisation.
Please spread news of this arrest in your organisations. |
